Powerful Protect the Powerful

Despite being on different sides of the political aisle. It is very clear that both political sides are are more concerned with keeping power then preserving any moralistic or idealistic beliefs they have.

For instance, George W. Bush stop the investigation into Bill Clinton and his pardoning spree hours before leaving office. Why would a direhard republican who's party tried to impeach "slick willy" not want to bury his political foe?

Because more important to politicians then core beliefs is maintaining the status quo and the power that comes with it. If the current president goes after his predicessor, what would stop the next president from doing that to him?

There are many examples of the powerful protecting themselves on every side of the political sphere. From not passing campaign finance reform, to redistricting, most politicians are guilty of this.
